Faces of Baseballtown Interviews
Interviews with the faces that you see
when you come to an R-Phils game
Meet the White Star Traveler- When you come to the Reading Phillies, one thing is for sure…you will see plenty of great athletes on the field. The 2009 R-Phils roster is full of top prospects that dazzle fans nightly with their skills. However, the most impressive of all these athletes may be someone who has never even worn a Reading Phillies jersey. It’s someone who carries a suitcase on the field instead of a glove. It’s the White Star Traveler! We recently sat down with the Traveler after he returned from a White Star vacation.
Recently we tracked down the White Star Traveler after returning
from a recent vacation...
You just returned from a vacation with White Star, where did you go?
I went to Spain for the annual running of the bulls. I’m always trying to improve my skills as a runner, and I figured there was no better way to train for being chased by a citizen of Baseballtown than to be chased by an extremely large and scary bull.
Any accidents?
Luckily I was able to escape without any damage.
You do seem to be pretty quick, however, you have never won a Base Race competition! What’s that all about?
Every race, I think I’m just about to take it and then someone comes out of nowhere to tackle me. It’s frustrating! I see Screwball and all the other mascots during the day, and they always wish me good luck in the race but then they make sure I don’t win…I don’t get it.
Does it make you angry to lose like that?
Actually, not really. The one good thing about always losing is that I always get to see the smile on my opponent’s face when they win. I love to see the young citizens of Baseballtown celebrating a victory, even if it is at my expense.
You are also the official mascot of the White Star Travel Center, how much fun is that?
Well, it’s great because I get to go on great vacations, like I said. Besides that, I love it because I get to single-handedly pick winners on the field when the R-Phils do trip giveaways.
What kind of trip giveaways?
Just last week I got to pick a lucky couple to go on a second honeymoon to Las Vegas. On August 16 for Grandparent/Grandchild Day, I get pick some lucky people to go on a vacation to Wildwood! I’m really excited!
Any final words before you go?
I just want to remind all the young baseball fans that if they ever want to try and take me on in the Base Race to stop by the Customer Service Booth in the Right Field Food Court before the games and see if there is a spot open to challenge me. I know sooner or later I will get a victory. Until that time, I’m going to keep racing hard and enjoying every second of life here in Baseballtown.
